[Veterinary Drug Name]

Generic name: Fenbendazole Tablets

Trade name:

English name: Fenbendazole Tablets

Pinyin: Fenbendazuo Pian

[Main Ingredients] Fenbendazole

[Description] This drug is of white or off-white tablets.

[Pharmacological Action] Pharmacodynamics: Fenbendazole is a benzimidazole class antihelmintic and its mechanism of action is to exert anthelmintic activity in combination with the microtubule proteins of nematodes. Its spectrum of action is not as broad as that of albendazole, but it is slightly more potent. For horses, it is highly effective against adult and larval Parascaris equorum and horse pinworms, Viviparous nematodes, Strongylus vulgaris Looss, Strongylus edentates, Strongylus epuinus, and Spinostrongylus sinensis. For cattle, it is effective against adult and larval Haemonchus, Ostertagia, Trichostrongylus, Bunostomum, Nematodirus spp, Cooperia, Oesophagosto-mum, and Dictyocaulus viviparous. For sheep, it shows excellent efficacy against adult and larval Haemonchus, Ostertagia, Trichostrongylus, Cooperia, nematodirus spp, Bunostomum, Chabertia ovina, Oesophagosto-mum, Trichocephalus and Dictyocaulus. Additionally, it can inhibit the egg production of most gastrointestinal nematodes. For pigs, fenbendazole is effective against adult and larval Hyostrongylus rubidus, roundworm, and Oesophagosto-mum. A dosage of 50 mg/kg for 3 consecutive days is highly effective against hookworms, roundworms, and whipworms in dogs and cats. Administering 50 mg/kg for 5 consecutive days is effective against cat lungworm (Aelurostrongylus abstrusus), while 3 consecutive days of administration is effective against cat mawworm (Strongyloides stercoralis). It also shows good efficacy against gastrointestinal and respiratory nematodes in poultry.

Pharmacokinetics: After oral administration of fenbendazole, absorption is slow in ruminants and slightly faster in monogastric animals. In dogs, the plasma peak concentration is reached after 24 hours of oral administration, while in sheep, the plasma peak concentration is reached after 2-3 days of oral administration. Once absorbed, fenbendazole is metabolized into sulfoxide (the active compound oxfendazole) and sulfone. In cattle, sheep, and pigs, 44%-50% fenbendazole is excreted unchanged in the feces, with less than 1% excreted in the urine. In dogs and cats, a single dose is ineffective; treatment must be continued for 3 days.

[Function and Use] Antihelmintic, for the treatment of nematodiasis and cestodiasis in livestock and poultry.

[Dosage and Administration] Oral administration: 0.5-0.75 tablets/time per 10kg of body weight for horses, cattle, sheep and pigs, 1-5 tablets/time per 10kg of body weight for poultry, and 2.5-5 tablets/time per 10kg of body weight for dogs and cats, administered for 3 consecutive days.

[Adverse Reaction] No adverse reactions have been observed generally with the proper use of the recommended dosage and administration. However, the release of antigens from dead parasites may lead to secondary allergic reactions, especially at high doses. In dogs or cats, vomiting may occasionally occur after oral administration, and there has been a reported case of leukopenia in a dog following medication.

[Precautions](1) It is prohibited to be used for horses intended for food use and lactating cattle and sheep.

(2)This drug may be associated with teratogenic and embryotoxic effects and should be avoided during early pregnancy.

(3)The single dose is often ineffective for dogs and cats; treatment must be continued for 3 days.

[Withdrawal Period] 21 days for cattle and sheep, and 3 days for pigs; 7 days for the weaning period.
