Trade name:
English name: Levamisole Hydrochloride Tablets
Pinyin: Yansuan Zuoxuanmizuo Pian
[Main Ingredients] Levamisole hydrochloride
[Description] This drug is of white tablets.
[Pharmacological Action] Pharmacodynamics: This drug is an imidazo and thiazole anti-nematode drug and has activity against most nematodes in cattle, sheep, pigs, dogs and chickens. The mechanism of its anthelmintic action is to excite the parasympathetic and sympathetic ganglia of worms, manifested as a nicotinic action; at high concentrations, levamisole interferes with the carbohydrate metabolism of nematodes by blocking the reduction of fumaric acid and oxidation of succinic acid, and finally paralyzes the worms, resulting in the expulsion of living worms.
In addition to the anthelmintic activity, this drug can also significantly boost the immune response. It can restore the cell-mediated immune function of peripheral T lymphocytes and excite the phagocytic function of monocytes. The action on animals with impaired immune functions is more significant.
Pharmacokinetics: This drug can be absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract after oral administration and then distributed throughout the body. Most of the drug is metabolized in the liver and kidney and the metabolites are mainly excreted in the urine, less than 6% in the original form and a small amount excreted in the feces. The plasma half life is 4-6 hours in cattle, 3-4 hours in sheep, 3.5-6.8 hours in pigs and 1.8-4 hours in dogs.
[Drug Interaction] (1) Drugs with a nicotine action, such as pyrantel, morantel, and diethylcarbamazine, and cholinesterase inhibitors such as organophosphorus and neostigmine can increase the toxicity of levamisole, so they should not be used in combination.
(2) Levamisole can enhance the immune response and efficacy of Brucella vaccines and etc.
[Function and Use] Imidazo and thiazide anti-nematode drug, mainly for the treatment of gastrointestinal nematodes and lung nematodes in cattle, sheep, pigs, dogs, cats and poultry, as well as the kidney worm disease of pigs.
[Dosage and Administration] Oral administration: 1.5 tablets/time per 10kg of body weight for cattle, sheep and pigs; 2 tablets/time per 10kg of body weight for dogs and cats; 5 tablets/time per 10kg of body weight for poultry.
[Adverse Reaction] (1) After administration, cattle may experience symptoms of parasympathetic nervous excitation, such as foam or salivation in the nose and mouth, excitement or tremors, lip-licking and head-shaking, and other adverse reactions. These symptoms generally subside within 2 hours.
(2) After administration, sheep may experience temporary excitement, while goats may become depressed, hypersensitive and salivate.
(3) Pigs may experience salivation or foam in the nose and mouth.
(4) Dogs may experience gastrointestinal disorders such as vomiting and diarrhea, neurotoxic reactions such as panting, head-shaking, anxiety or other behavioral changes, agranulocytosis, pulmonary edema, and immune-mediated rashes, etc.
(5) Cats may experience salivation, excitement, mydriasis and vomiting, etc.
[Precautions] (1) It is prohibited to be used for animals during the lactation period.
(2) Horses and camels are quite sensitive, so it is prohibited to be used for camels and it should be used with caution for horses.
