[Main Ingredients] Rafoxanide

[Description] This drug is of grayish-white to light brown powder.

[Pharmacological Action] Antihelmintic. Rafoxanide is effective against the adult stages of Fasciola hepatica and Fasciola gigantica, and it also has high activity against immature forms of these parasites. Additionally, rafoxanide exhibits a high efficacy in expelling adult and immature parasites found in sheep, as well as adult Haemonchus contortus, Ostertagia ostertagi, and various developmental stages of nasal bot flies in sheep. As a proton ionophore, rafoxanide transports cations across cell membranes, and ultimately leads to the uncoupling of oxidative phosphorylation in the mitochondria of the parasites, so as to reduce ATP production, lower glycogen content, and cause succinate accumulation. This not only disrupts the energy metabolism of the parasites, but also leads to their death. After oral administration, rafoxanide can be quickly absorbed by the small intestine, and reach peak plasma concentrations within 24 to 48 hours. It is not metabolized in cattle or sheep, but has a high plasma protein binding rate, and a long half-life (16.6 days).

[Function and Use] Antiparasitic agent, for the treatment of fascioliasis in cattle and sheep.

[Dosage and Administration] On the basis of this drug. Oral administration: 280-480mg/time per 1kg of body weight for cattle and sheep.

[Adverse Reaction] At supratherapeutic doses (150-450 mg/kg), blindness and mydriasis can be observed.

[Precautions] (1) Lactation period is prohibited.

(2) To thoroughly eliminate immature parasites, it is advisable to repeat the medication once after three weeks.

[Withdrawal Period] 60 days for cattle and sheep.
