[Veterinary Drug Name]

Generic name: Tiamulin Fumarate Premix

Trade name: Zhiyuanjing

English name: Tiamulin Fumarate Premix

Pinyin: Yanhusuosuan Taimiaojunsu Yuhunji

[Main Ingredients] Tiamulin fumarate

[Description] This drug is of white or off-white powder or granules.

[Pharmacological Action] Pharmacodynamics: Tiamulin belongs to the pleuromutilin type of antibiotics and exhibits bactericidal activity against sensitive bacteria at high concentrations. It inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S subunit of the ribosome.

Tiamulin has good antibacterial activity against Mycoplasma and Treponema hyodysenteriae, as well as most Gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus and Streptococcus (except Group D Streptococcus). It also has some effect on Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae but shows weaker activity against most Gram-negative bacteria.

When combined with chlortetracycline in a ratio of 1:4, this drug can treat bacterial enteritis, bacterial pneumonia, and swine dysentery caused by Treponema hyodysenteriae in pigs. It is particularly effective for pneumonia caused by mixed infections of Mycoplasma pneumonia, Bordetella bronchiseptica, and Pasteurella multocida.

Pharmacokinetics: In pigs, oral administration results in good absorption. The bioavailability after a single dose is approximately 85%, with peak plasma concentration reached within 2-4 hours. The drug distributes widely in the body, with the highest concentration found in lung tissue. Tiamulin is extensively metabolized into over 20 metabolites, some of which retain antibacterial activity. Metabolites are primarily excreted via bile through feces, with about 30% excreted in urine.

[Drug Interaction] (1) Co-administration with polyether ionophore antibiotics such as monensin, salinomycin, or methymonic acid can affect the metabolism of these antibiotics, leading to growth retardation, ataxia, paralysis, and even death in pigs.

(2)Co-administration with other antibiotics that bind to the 50S subunit of bacterial ribosomes (such as macrolides and lincomycin) may reduce efficacy due to competition for the same target site.

[Function and Use] Pleuromutilin antibiotic. Primarily used for the prevention and treatment of Mycoplasma pneumonia and Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae in pigs. Also used for swine dysentery caused by Treponema.

[Dosage and Administration] On the basis of this drug. Mixed feeding: 400-1000g per 1000kg of fodders for pigs, administered for 5-10 consecutive days.

[Adverse Reaction] At recommended doses, pigs may sometimes develop skin erythema. Overdose can cause transient slobbering, vomiting, and central nervous system depression in pigs.

[Precautions] (1) It is prohibited to be used in combination with polyether ionophore antibiotics such as monensin, salinomycin, or methymonic acid.

(2) Users should avoid contact with eyes and skin.

[Withdrawal Period] 7 days for pigs.
