[Veterinary Drug Name]
Generic name: Colistin Sulfate Soluble Powder
Trade name:
English name: Colistin Sulfate Soluble Powder
Pinyin: Liusuan Nianjunsu Kerongxingfen
[Main Ingredients] Colistin
[Description] This drug is of white or off-white powder.
[Pharmacological Action] Pharmacodynamics: Colistin belongs to the polypeptide class of antibiotics and acts as an alkaline cationic surfactant. It exerts its antibacterial effect by interacting with phospholipids in the bacterial cell membrane, penetrating into the membrane, disrupting its structure, and altering membrane permeability, leading to bacterial death.
This drug exhibits strong antibacterial activity against Gram-negative bacteria such as aerobic bacteria, Escherichia coli, Haemophilus, Klebsiella, Pasteurella, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella, Shigella, etc. Generally, Gram-positive bacteria are not sensitive. There is complete cross-resistance with polymyxin B, but no cross-resistance with other antibiotics.
Pharmacokinetics: When administered orally, colistin is almost not absorbed, but it is rapidly absorbed when given by non-gastrointestinal routes. The drug can quickly distribute into the heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, and skeletal muscles after entering the body, but it does not easily penetrate into the cerebrospinal fluid, pleural cavity, joint cavity, or sites of infection. It is primarily excreted via the kidneys.
[Drug Interaction] (1) When used together with neuromuscular blocking agents such as muscle relaxants and aminoglycosides, it may cause muscle weakness and respiratory arrest.
(2) When combined with chelating agents (EDTA) and cationic detergents, it exhibits a synergistic action against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and is often used together for the treatment of local infections.
[Function and Use] Polypeptide antibiotic, primarily for the treatment of intestinal infections caused by Gram-negative bacteria.
