[Main Ingredients] Closantel sodium

[Description] This drug is of light yellow or yellow transparent liquid.

[Pharmacological Action] Pharmacodynamics: This drug exhibits efficacy against Fasciola hepatica and Fasciola gigantica in cattle and sheep, as well as against Haemonchus contortus and certain arthropods. It is ineffective against Fasciolopsiasis. With regard to the majority of gastrointestinal nematodes, including Haemonchus contortus, Ostertagia ostertagi, and Trichostrongylus axei, this drug achieves an elimination rate surpassing 90%. Certain strains of Haemonchus contortus in sheep may develop resistance to this drug. Chlorcyanodithiazol sodium is effective in eliminating canine hookworms but is ineffective against internal larvae. It also serves to prevent or reduce infections of Strongylus vulgaris in horses. Furthermore, this drug demonstrates a 100% efficacy in killing the first, second, and third instar larvae of Oestrus ovis in sheep, and also shows a significant lethal effect on the third instar larvae of Dermatobia hominis in cattle. The anthelmintic mechanism of this drug involves increasing the permeability of the parasites’ mitochondria, thereby uncoupling oxidative phosphorylation and exerting its vermicidal action.

Pharmacokinetics: The plasma protein binding rate of Closantel sodium in sheep is very high (exceeding 99%), leading to an extended elimination half-life of 14.5 days. Predominantly, the drug is eliminated via feces, accounting for 80% of the total excretion, while only a minuscule fraction, less than 0.5%, is discharged through urine.

[Drug Interaction] Closantel is compatible with benzimidazole derivatives and can also be co-administered with levamisole.

[Function and Use] Antiparasitic drug, for the prevention and treatment of liver fluke diseases, gastrointestinal nematode infections, and nasal botfly infestations in cattle and sheep.

[Dosage and Administration] Subcutaneous or intramuscular injection: 0.05-0.1 ml/time per 1kg of body weight for cattle, and 0.1-0.2 ml/time per 1kg of body weight for sheep.

[Adverse Reaction] No adverse reactions have been observed with the proper use of the recommended dosage.

[Precautions] It has a certain degree of irritation to the injection site.

[Withdrawal Period] 28 days for cattle and sheep; 28 days for the weaning period.
